대한민국이 사우디아라비아에 1-0 신승을 거뒀습니다. 클린스만호가 드디어 첫 승을 거뒀습니다. 지난 5경기에서 3무 2패로 성적이 상당히 부진했는데 이제라도 승리를 거둬 다행입니다. 물론 경기력이 그렇게 좋지 않아서 비판을 계속되고 있지만 만약 비기거나 패배했다면 감독 경질 분위기까지 만들어 질 뻔 했습니다. 그래서 승리를 더 아쉬워하는 팬들도 있을 정도입니다.
아무튼 이번 경기는 조규성 선수의 골로 신승을 거뒀는데 참 이해할 수 없는 장면이 있었습니다. 바로 전반 34분 손흥민 선수의 페널티킥 기회였습니다. 조규성 선수의 패스를 받은 손흥민 선수는 빠르게 페널티박스 안으로 들어갔습니다. 그런데 사우디 수비수 하산 알 탐박티에게 태클을 당해 넘어졌습니다. 공을 건들지도 못했고 손흥민 선수의 발을 걸려 넘어뜨리게 만든 완벽한 파울이었습니다.
그런데 앤디 메들리 주심은 파울이 아니라고 판정했습니다. 제가 한국 사람이라서 이걸 편파적으로 해석하는 게 아니라 기본적으로 축구를 보시는 분들이나 하시는 분들이라면 파울이라는 걸 알 수 있는 장면입니다. 이게 페널티킥이 아니라면 수비수들이 상대 선수들의 다리를 계속해서 걸어 넘어뜨려도 문제가 되지 않습니다. 이건 정말 말이 안 되는 판정입니다.
손흥민 선수도 억울한 표정으로 심판을 바라보고 페널티킥이 선언되지 않자 고개를 푹 숙였습니다. 여기서 페널티킥이 선언됐고 골을 성공시켰다면 연속골로 경기가 2-0이 되면서 다소 편안하게 다득점을 노려볼 수 있었습니다. 하지만 심판의 어이없는 판정으로 경기가 끝날 때까지 어려운 경기를 펼쳤습니다. 프리미어리그 심판이라고 하는데 참 대단합니다.
토트넘 팬 SNS에 손흥민 선수의 장면이 올라왔는데 현지 팬들의 반응도 우리와 비슷합니다.
스퍼스 렌츠라는 팬은 “손흥민은 페널티킥을 도둑 맞았다. 난 앤디 메들리 심판이 왜 아직도 프리미어리그에서 경기를 하고 있는지 모르겠다”고 말했습니다.
헤일스퍼라는 팬은 “사우디는 홈에서 뛰었다. 그래서 이런 일이 일어났다”라고 했습니다. 이번 경기는 뉴캐슬 유나이티드의 홈 구장 세인트 제임스 파크에서 열렸는데 아무래도 뉴캐슬이 사우디 자본이다 보니 팬들은 이렇게 바라보고 있습니다.
한 팬은 “저 심판은 앞으로 어떤 토트넘 경기에서도 절대 경기를 맡게 해서는 안 된다”라고 했습니다.
게리라는 팬은 “당신이 잘못된 일을 당하는 걸 보고 싶지 않다면 미안하지만 저 심판은 짤라야 한다”라고 했습니다.
또 다른 팬은 “내가 라이브로 본 경기 중 불행하게도 최악의 심판이었다”라고 말했습니다.
이건 현지 팬들, 한국 팬들, 사우디 팬들 모두 상관 없이 축구를 좋아하는 사람이라면 잘못된 판정이라고 생각할 수밖에 없습니다. 정말 최악이네요. 결과를 얻은 것만해도 다행인 경기입니다. 이제 대표팀은 다음달 튀니지와 베트남을 상대합니다. 클린스만호가 이 2경기에선 어떤 결과를 얻을지 궁금하네요. 감사합니다.

South Korea won 1-0 over Saudi Arabia. Klinsmann finally got his first win. Our performance in the last 5 games was quite poor with 3 draws and 2 losses, but it is fortunate that we have achieved a win now. Of course, the performance is not that good, so criticism continues, but if they had drawn or lost, there would have been an atmosphere of dismissal of the coach. That's why some fans are even more disappointed about the victory.
Anyway, this game was won by Cho Gyu-seong's goal, but there was a scene that was truly incomprehensible. It was Son Heung-min's penalty kick opportunity in the 34th minute of the first half. Son Heung-min received a pass from Cho Kyu-sung and quickly entered the penalty box. However, he was tackled by Saudi defender Hassan Al Tambakti and fell. He couldn't even touch the ball and it was a perfect foul that caused Son Heung-min to trip and fall.
However, referee Andy Medley ruled that it was not a foul. I'm not interpreting this in a biased way because I'm Korean, but basically, anyone who watches or plays soccer can tell that this is a foul scene. If this isn't a penalty kick, it doesn't matter if defenders keep tripping on opposing players' legs. This is a decision that really makes no sense.
Son Heung-min also looked at the referee with an aggrieved expression and lowered his head when a penalty kick was not called. A penalty kick was called here, and if the goal had been scored, the game would have been 2-0 with consecutive goals, allowing the team to comfortably score multiple goals. However, the referee's absurd decision made the game difficult until the end. He is said to be a Premier League referee and he is truly amazing.
A scene of Son Heung-min was posted on Tottenham fan SNS, and the reaction of local fans was similar to ours.
A fan named Spurs Lenz said, “Son Heung-min had his penalty kick stolen. “I don’t know why referee Andy Medley is still playing in the Premier League,” he said.
