한국 축구 이거 맞아…? 클린스만호와 황선홍호를 보고 든 생각들

클린스만호가 웨일스와 0-0으로 무승부를 거뒀습니다. 새벽 3시 45분 경기였는데 안 보고 잔 사람들이 진정한 승자였습니다. 부임 후 5경기를 치렀는데 3무 2패로 아직까지 승리를 거두지 못하고 있습니다. 이는 2000년 이후 한국 대표팀을 이끌었던 감독 중 최장 기간 무승입니다. 아시안컵은 점점 다가오고 있는데 클린스만호는 여전히 어떤 축구를 보여주려고 하는지 알기가 어렵습니다. 웨일스전은 경기력도 좋지 않았습니다. 손흥민, 김민재, 황희찬 등 최근 소속팀에서 좋은 모습을 보여주고 있는 선수들을 모두 소집해 활용했지만 무색무취한 모습이 나왔습니다.

최근 한국 축구를 보면 참 불안합니다. K리그는 역대급 인기를 누리고 있는데 대표팀에서는 그 분위기를 따라가지 못하는 것 같습니다. 황선홍 감독이 이끌고 있는 올림픽 대표팀도 그렇습니다. 황선홍 감독은 포항 스틸러스를 이끌던 시절에는 외국인 선수들 없이도 리그 우승과 FA컵 우승을 차지하며 팬들에게 강한 인상을 남겼습니다. 그런데 FC서울로 부임한 후부터 커리어가 내리막길을 걷고 있습니다.

FC서울, 대전하나시티즌 그리고 한국 23세 이하 대표팀까지 참 아쉬운 모습을 보여주고 있습니다. 최근 황선홍호는 U-23 아시안컵 예선으로 카타르를 상대했는데 홈에서 0-2 패배를 당했습니다. 불행하게도 골키퍼의 치명적인 실수가 있었지만 그래도 선수 선발과 전술을 결정하는 건 감독의 몫입니다. 황선홍 감독은 아시안게임과 파리올림픽을 치러야 합니다. 두 대회는 병역 혜택이 걸려있어 한국 축구에 상당히 중요한 대회입니다. 그런데 현재 황선홍호의 모습을 보면 그리 좋은 결과가 예상되지 않는 것이 사실입니다.

모든 것이 클린스만 감독, 황선홍 감독의 잘못은 아닐 겁니다. 이들을 선임한 대한축구협회의 책임도 있겠죠. 협회는 최근 삽질을 이어가고 있습니다. 승부조작범들을 기습 사면을 했다가 엄청난 비판을 받아 이를 철회했습니다. 잼버리 K팝 콘서트 행사에서 잔디 논란이 불거졌을 때는 뒷짐만 지고 있었습니다. 축구 팬들과 구단을 위해 정부를 상대해야 했는데 어떤 목소리도 대변하지 못했습니다. 정몽규 회장의 무능함이 최근에는 더욱 돋보이는 것 같습니다.
